I Never Saw Another Butterfly

Artist's story behind the creation of the piece:
The sculpture that this print represents was birthed out of a piece of music called Oratorio Terezin that was inspired by a book of children's poetry from the Holocaust titled "I Never Saw Another Butterfly". The child is leaning on the inside of the crematorium door in a fetal position, and is feeling totally abandoned and cast away. The crematorium is the last stage of the death process, but the arm that is not seen on the inside of the oven is actually penetrating the closed door and clutching a small piece of ground just outside the door. This small piece of ground represents the land of Israel that is being possessed by the child unknowingly. Israel is the butterfly that he never sees. The ground is covered with olive leaves. The oil from the olive symbolizes healing and anointing; the anointing of the Jewish people as a nation back in their own land. It is their beginning, or physical resurrection, as spoken in Ezekiel 37.

About the print:
This is an 8x10 gallery mounted print. This exclusive gallery mount is a modern and cost-effective way to present the image as a finished piece and display it without the additional time and cost of traditional framing and matting. This state-of-the-art presentation begins with the photographed image being printed on professional Kodak metallic paper. A machine texture known as pebble is added to print for a deeper texture. The print is then completely sealed with a durable, transparent semi-gloss laminate, then heat-fused to a 3/4" densely engineered substrate. Providing a classic look, each flush edge is then finished with black bevel and edge color and heat-fused. The print comes ready to hang with a pre-drilled key-hole opening requiring only a #10 round-headed or panhead screw.

Also included is the artist's story behind the creation of the piece as described above. This can be framed & mounted with the print at the discretion of the customer.
