Julie Claire DeVoe -
Jeweler & Creator of Chimera Designs

Julie handcrafts fine jewelry in karat gold and sterling silver using unique and varied gemstones.
Most, if not all, of Julie's work on Gozabo are one-of-a-kind pieces that will not be duplicated. Although it is often hard to capture every aspect of a piece of jewelry in just one small photo, Julie will be happy to e-mail more pictures and more specific descriptions of any items you are interested in.
For all of you Michiganders out there, you can always stop by Julie's store located in historic downtown Lowell, Michigan where she has her own design studio.
If you would like to contact Julie about a special project or design you have in mind email her here.

GoZabo wanted to know more!

How long have you been making Jewelry?
"6 Years as an adult. My jewelry making began when I was 13 and sold earrings at a mall in Grand Rapids, Michigan on consignment."

Briefly describe your technique & process of how you make your jewelry.
"I do a lot of hand fabrication which involves bending and shaping the gold or silver as opposed to the casting method."

What are some of the differences in working with gold vs. silver?
"Gold solders like butter compared to silver which is much more difficult. Hard to get a mirror finish on silver."

How do you choose the stones you use in your pieces?
"I look for "movement" in the gem, like an interesting pattern or facet configuration."

How long does it usually take to create a unique piece of jewelry?
" Anywhere from 3-18 hours."

What makes being a jeweler so enjoyable for you?
"Solitary mind travel and building something that surprises me!"

Can people bring their own jewels and diamonds in to you and have you use them in a design they would like to create with you?
"Always!"

Where did you learn your trade?
"Self taught with help from Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan & Blaine Lewis, Master Jeweler, at the 'New Approach School for Jewelers'."

Tell us something funny about yourself:
"I carry on very vocal conversations with myself while I work!"

What has been the most challenging for you as a jeweler?
"Knowing when a piece has been "worked" enough- knowing when to stop."

What is your favorite Inspirational saying or quote?
"What IF the "Hokey Pokey" IS what it is all about?"

Any Festivals you will be showing in the near future?
"Sleigh bells & Holly at the Lowell Arts Council in Lowell, Michigan from November 15th through Christmas."

List Accomplishments, awards, recognitions:
"Sole parent of 3 children who are now happy and successful adults." (GoZabo says "MAJOR KUDOS"!)

What do you think makes an artist successful?
"Creating a piece that speaks to me as well as to the person it was designed for!"

Where does the inspiration of your pieces come from?
"First from detailed conversations with the person I am designing for when it is a commissioned piece. My other ideas happen when driving fast in my 300hp Mustang GT!"

One goal that you would still like to achieve and haven't yet?
"I am pretty content for now, but I would like to get to spend some time in Big Sur with my husband Cliff."

GoZabo.com Takes a look at Paul Needham, Creator & Artist of "Paint Creek Pottery".

Paul Needham is a retired ceramics teacher of 32 years from the Lake Orion School District in Michigan.
Currently, when not busy making pottery, Paul spends his time relaxing at his Northern Michigan home.

GoZabo wanted to know More!

How long have you been making Pottery?
"A long time...Seems Like Forever..Since 1972, 35 years!"

Describe your technique and what causes the color variations in your products:
"Mugs are wheel thrown, high fired stoneware, reduction fired in a gas kiln which creates the variations in color of the glazes."

How long does it take to make a mug?
"Many steps are involved in making a mug..wheel time is about 30-40 minutes, but then several additional
steps must be taken for dry-time, bisque firing time, glaze time and glaze firing time!"

What makes being a potter so enjoyable for you?
"It's easy.. and the end product is rewarding."

Where did you learn your trade?
"Central Michigan University where I earned a MFA (Master's of Fine Arts)."

What has been the most challenging for you as a potter?
"Moving the 30 cubic foot kiln five times from one home to the other!"

What do you think makes an artist successful?
"Bringing the media to the public."

Explain the difference between Pottery & Ceramics:
"The same in my mind, pottery IS ceramics."

Are your mugs dishwasher, microwave AND oven safe?
"Yes!"

What is your favorite Inspirational saying?
"Will it matter tomorrow?"

Around the office-we have been having fun with riddles. We thought we would add a riddle to our weekly newsletters!
Hope you enjoy them!

What is so fragile that even when you say its name it will break?
(Answer at bottom of newsletter)

You can now order GoZabo.com t-shirts!

Wear a GoZabo.com t-shirt at art fairs or any event! You won't believe how many people say "What's GoZabo.com?" Great way to promote your online gallery! T-shirts are only $19.99 (This INCLUDES Shipping). Just send us your size and address at contactus@gozabo.com and we will invoice you through paypal where you can pay by check-Visa or Mastercard! All shirts are screen printed JERZEES and 100% Cotton!

Online Shopping Trends- Who are your customers and what do they want?
35% of consumers surveyed said added costs, such as shipping and handling, or lengthy delivery times resulted in their abandoning an online purchase. Shipping charges for online orders continue to be a thorn in the side of consumers, 20% of whom cited shipping costs as their biggest frustration related to online shopping.

With this in mind, please be very clear as to what your shipping costs and delivery times will be for your customers. If you have shipping included in the price of your item - ADD THAT TO THE DESCRIPTION information so your customers know that shipping is included. If you do not include shipping costs in the price of your items, relay what your shipping costs will be in the description of your products. Be Clear and make it easy for your buyers to know what they can expect!

How can you add more exposure to your gallery on GoZabo.com? Go to del.icio.us and bookmark your GoZabo.com gallery page! It's easy and a great way to promote your online gallery!

Going on Vacation?
Let the staff here at Gozabo.com know the time you will be away and we can hibernate your site for you until you get back! This way you don't have to worry about not being able to fulfill an order while you are gone! Just shoot us an email!

ALL CAPS:
PLEASE DO NOT USE ALL CAPS FOR YOUR PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS OR YOUR PROFILE ON YOUR GALLERY PAGE! THIS IS CONSIDERED BEING YELLED AT ON THE WEB! It is much easier to read and viewer friendly if you do not us ALL CAPS!

Dimensions of your products in your descriptions!

Please make sure you add the dimensions of your products in your descriptions as pictures can sometimes be deceiving! Remember the more info you give the buyers, the more likely they are to purchase!

We hope the newsletter finds you all well and enjoying the last days of summer! As always we wish you much success and appreciate your business! Please feel free to contact us at any time with any questions you have in regards to GoZabo.com!

GoZabo.com - Shopping for One-of-a-kind!

Sun, 08/19/2007 - 8:25pm

GoZabo.com's Product Pick of the week!
Horse Hair PlatterVisit Diana Wittliff's Gallery to see other works created by Diana!

This Week I have decided to start out by giving you all a riddle! The answer to the riddle will be at the bottom of the newsletter but see if you can figure it out before you scroll down!

What is greater than God?
The Poor have it
The wealthy need it
It is more evil than the devil
If you eat it you would die!

This week I want to go over a few nuts and bolts about GoZabo! The site is really starting to get the feeder traffic that we have been waiting for which is generated by 1000's of search engines. We are seeing an increase in traffic to the site every day and are excited about the progress!

In October there is a "handmade" show in Tulsa, Oklahoma that we are sponsoring!Check out their website. Let them know that GoZaboists are interested in supporting their show by viewing their site!

Another exciting development-Kathy Hutson, a writer for the Daily Tribune in Royal Oak, Michigan, is doing a featured article on GoZabo.com. As soon as I have a copy I will send it to all of you!

  • Please make sure that once an item is sold on GoZabo.com that you go into your account and under "Manage my products" delete them. This ensures that buyers do not get frustrated when they want to purchase a product and find that they can't!

  • TIP: When you add your biography or description of a product, GoZabo.com provides the ability to spell check your descriptions. Please spell check all of your gallery wording as there is nothing worst than seeing "misspelled" words (One of our major pet peeves here in the office)!

  • Our events calendar is being updated with new events continuously! If you know of an event please add it to our calendar under your artists navigation bar where it says "Add GoZabo Event".
  • Once you add an event, Gozabo staff reviews it and then we "Publish" it to the calendar. Until we "Publish" it you will not see it listed. This ensures GoZabo.com the ability to screen all events before they are added to the calendar to make sure they are relevant to the site!

  • As a new artist- if you do NOT add your biography to your gallery, you will not see your gallery show up under your state or city listings! Please make sure that you complete this!

  • We have added another person to our team - Patrick Stasko from Ohio. Patrick has been working at optimizing our site and making sure our keywords and search engine placement are "on the right Track". Thanks for everything Patrick! You're doing a great job!

  • I hope this newsletter finds you all well and if any of you are like me- time is a major commodity right now! There seems to be more to do than what can possibly get done but we are pleased with the sites growth and the caliber of artists that are joining us!

As always, we wish you much success in all you do and remember CHRISTMAS is only 4 months away! Be thinking about how you can advertise to your existing clients and direct them to your online gallery to increase your sales!

    Cheers,
    Julia Thomas

August - The last days of summer are upon us!
As I sat outside on my Aunt's porch a couple of days ago, I realized summer was on its way out. Her once vibrant and full pots of geraniums, pansies, tomato plants and daisies that lined her walkways and hung from her porch railings were looking "tired"~I know my Aunt diligently and daily waters her plants so they weren't looking sparse because of neglect! Their "naturalogical" time clock was telling them the end of summer was upon us~. As my thoughts turned to the future I couldn't believe that in just 3 short weeks my "baby" would be starting her Senior Year in High School and my oldest would be starting her 3rd year in college! Wow, how time flies!
So to all of you that may be reflecting and wondering where your summer has gone - try to schedule a break in all of your hectic lives and take a little extra time to enjoy what we have left of our long summer days as fall is knocking ever so gently on our back door!

    Congratulations
to Helen Van Essendelft for winning our profile picture contest that ended on August 2nd! Check out Helen's creative profile picture submission! Helen has won a free GoZabo t-shirt and mug! Congratulations Helen!

    For a limited time only
GoZabo has implemented the new "GoZabo Guarantee" to all of our new artists! When an artist signs up for a 6 month or 1 year subscription on GoZabo.com if they don't sell any of their works, we will extend the time of their originally purchased subscription FOR FREE!!! As a new site we wanted to give artists a "your satisfaction guaranteed" reason to Join GoZabo and show how confidant we are that GoZabo IS the site for artists to sell their works!

    Last but not least -
My husband and I had an opportunity to meet one of the artists on GoZabo.com at a reception given in his honor in Grand Haven, Michigan. Rick Wienecke and his wife Daphna live in Israel about 1 hour north of Jerusalem. We had a wonderful visit with Rick and Daphna and the joy of not only seeing Rick's sculptures and pictures but also hearing about Rick's God inspired life during his presentation! Although Rick is a sculptor of bronze, stone and other media - his American liaisons sell Photos of his works on Gozabo. View Rick's personal site here where I would encourage you all to view his project the "Fountain of Tears" bringing the Holocaust and Christ's crucifiction together through art. His project which is erected in his backyard is becoming a well known tourist attraction in Israel!

Until Next week May all of you stay safe and have Much success in all you do!

    Cheers,
    The Gozabo Gang!!

Buy Handmade- The Latest Craze! GoZabo.com

    Wed, 07/25/2007 - 3:20pm
Gozabo's Product Pick of the week!

    Marilyn Monroe Mosaic

    Artist: Linda Ross

Buying Handmade is the latest craze in the shopping world!

So many people are tired of seeing the same ole' merchandise at their local gift stores, shopping malls and Beyond (Bed and Bath that is). When was the last time you went to a baby shower? Almost all gifts are purchased from toys- r -us, babies- r- us or target! If you don't check the registry for the next baby shower, wedding or birthday party you go to, you will probably end up buying a duplicate gift and we all know how embarrassing that can be! At every department store and Hallmark you visit, you are never at a loss for finding manufactured, mass produced products made from overseas. They line the shelves and everything blends into one another looking the same! This is just one of the many reasons more and more people are turning to online shopping.coms like GoZabo.com for those one of a kind , unique, "can't find anywhere else" type of gifts! So here is a big warm round of applause to Handmade, American made, unique, quality arts and crafts that make gift giving once again a special moment!

A few statistics for all of you to enjoy. During our first month of GoZabo.com being launched on the World Wide Web we have had over 3,000 unique visits and over 30,000 page visits! Everyday we continue to see the word spread about GoZabo.com and expect nothing less! When people are visiting the site they are taking their time and really checking it out! If I had a brick and mortar business these results would have been unheard of!

We continue to ask everyone to add us to your blogs, send an email to your friends and family, chat with co-workers around the water cooler and rent a hot air balloon with GOZABO.COM printed on the side of it to float above the next art fair you attend! (Just wanting to see if you were still paying attention!)

One important piece of information for all of you.....The titles that you give your products on GoZabo.com actually have their own url address with "your title" in it. For example Jerry Johnson (photographer on the site) Has a picture he has labeled "Moo". His url for that actual photograph is GoZabo.com/product/art-gallery/animals/moo. If someone is actually searching for a product and type in the word "MOO" that will give Jerry's picture a better chance of being found even if the person hasn't heard about GoZabo yet! So pay real close attention to the names that you are giving your products and ask yourself what someone might search for that would lead them to your works!

I can't believe up till now that no one has taken us up on the challenge of making their profile pics more "Creative"! I am hoping that I get some of you to join the contest and show us what you can do! Maybe it's the summertime that finds everyone a little strapped for time!

My next newsletter I will be sharing with you some of the experiences we have had within the past week meeting some pretty incredible artists!

Until then, Stay safe and as always we love to hear your feedback and wish you much success!

GoZabo's Favorite Product of the week!
Check it out Felted Shigra Vessel

    Hello to All!

Hope the summer has been treating you well! We sure have had some beautiful weather (in Michigan anyway) which has been great for all of you that are travelling and exhibiting at Art Fairs!

Last Sunday, I attended one of the largest and most organized art fairs I have recently been to. "Krasl Art Fair" in St. Joseph, Michigan. It was a juried fair and had some of the most diverse talent I have seen in quite a while! St. Joseph is a community that is obviously committed to the arts! Bronze sculptures dotted the landscape along their roads and the shores of Lake Michigan. The event was well organized and very entertaining. There was food, music under the pavilion, street musicians and the booths of the exhibitors were set up on the "Bluff" overlooking the Lake. A breathtaking view and they couldn't of asked for better weather! A light breeze, mix of thin clouds and sunshine and in the mid 70's! We truly enjoyed seeing some unique works and had the chance to talk with a lot of great people!

This week I am encouraging you all to really pay attention to the pictures that you have submitted for your profiles! As an artist - does your profile picture show creativity? Is it distorted? What message does your picture send to your potential buyers? Does it make people want to visit your gallery?

    GoZabo's Gallery Photo Contest!

GoZabo will be choosing the artist who posts the most creative profile picture on their gallery within the next two weeks. The artist that has the most creative submission will receive a free GoZabo.com T-Shirt and mug! So get those creative juices flowing and show the world who you are!

When you submit a new gallery photo, shoot us an email and give us a heads up at contactus@gozabo.com. If you want some ideas take a look at Ms. Elaineous' profile picture and ask yourself what you can do to drive more buyers to your gallery! Have fun with it and get creative!
The promotion will end on August 2nd, 2007
We look forward to your submissions!
As always we wish you much success, have a great weekend and stay safe!

    Cheers,
