Artist Biography:
After graduating from Kendall College of Art and Design, I was employed as a graphic designer for several years. When the first of my three children was born, I began various freelance art opportunities from home. In 1996 I returned to college to pursue a teaching degree, focusing in art and reading. I taught in various school and private settings for several years.
In 2000 I began creating fine art - pastel paintings, pencil renderings, and gourd art. I quickly realized how much I missed this part of my past, and began utilizing my talents and presenting my work at various art shows and galleries. In addition to the fine art, I now offer mural and decorative painting services in homes and businesses.
The gourd art is growing as a focus at the art shows and is enthusiastically received where ever it is displayed. The hardshell gourd is much like a wood product once dried (which takes 6 months to a year or more), and I carve, wood burn, and paint on them using wood working tools. I appreciate the natural quality, shape, and colorations that make each gourd unique, and use these features in the designs I create. Each gourd is truly one of a kind, a piece of artwork created by God and simply embellished by me.
