Artist Biography:
I’ve always had busy hands and a curious mind and have been making art since I was a child. Starting in my early teens, I took fashion design and fashion illustration classes. I started college at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art and earned a B.A. in studio art and art history from the University of Minnesota.
My husband’s work gave us the opportunity to move around for the next 20 years. We’ve lived in five of the United States and in India, and have also traveled quite a bit for fun. The time I spent in India has been a huge influence in my life, from the way I see color to my awareness of the role of class status in human society.
Due to all the relocations my family has experienced, my work life has been varied. In between years of running an at-home art studio, I’ve alternately worked in print shops, been a free-lance graphic artist, been a museum docent, a zoo tour guide, a librarian, a proofreader, a medical secretary, a mentor to at-risk students, a tutor, and a rather tired mom. I’ve always taken advantage of local art centers, museums, and on-the-job training and as a result I’ve stayed abreast of new technologies in graphic arts and web development.
I've been a silk painter for over 20 years.
